The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Department of Dental Diagnostic Science offers a graduate training program leading to a certification in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (2.5 years) and a Master of Science degree in Dental Diagnostic Science (3 years).

The Certificate program is two and a half years of intensive training in radiation physics and biology, radiographic techniques and interpretation and is designed to prepare students to sit for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology examination. Students will be responsible for performing and interpreting conventional radiographic and tomographic procedures, CT and CBCT imaging reformation procedures and digital image analysis procedures that are offered to the clinical and research faculty in the department of Dental Diagnostic Science Tertiary Care Radiology Clinic.

A student who is planning for an academic career may extend his/her certificate program for six months to obtain a Master of Science degree. If the student wishes to achieve a greater degree of proficiency in other areas of diagnosis, he/she can choose to extend the program another six months and take a variety of elective didactic and clinical courses in diagnosis.

A combined program of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and Radiation Physics or Radiation Biology Co-sponsored by the dental and medical schools is available for students with special interest in research training at the PhD level.

Tuition and other school expenses are about $10000 per year, and a stipend of $9,200 per year is offered to support the training. All applicants for the Master of Science degree program are required to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test. Students from countries where English is not the principal language are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Applications are due on November 1st for the following year's summer classes.
