Dr. Aditya Tadinada, Program Director The University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, Section of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology offers postdoctoral training programs leading to a certificate of clinical training in oral and maxillofacial radiology. The Certificate requires 2 years, or a combined program with a Master’s degree is 3 years, or a PhD in Oral Biology is approximately 5 years. This program prepares students for academic careers or private practice in oral and maxillofacial radiology and qualifies the graduate to sit for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (ABOMR). Academic and clinical courses include radiation physics, radiation biology, radiation safety and hygiene, basic biological sciences, imaging sciences and interpretation of various radiographic imaging studies like 2-D images, Cone Beam CT, CT, MRI and allied imaging modalities. Clinical rotations include medical diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine and radiation oncology. There is substantial teaching experience in clinical and classroom settings. Many opportunities and encouragement is given for clinical and laboratory research activities in areas of radiation biology, imaging technology, radiation risk and safety and a variety of other laboratory and clinical scientific disciplines. The Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology Section collaborates with other departments in the School of Dental Medicine, Basic Sciences in the School of Medicine, as well as with related groups at the University campus in Storrs. The facility is active in several clinical and research areas, and has a substantial school and community based faculty practice exclusively in imaging. The imaging facility is outstanding, including digital and Cone Beam CT imaging facilities. An applicant must have successfully completed an accredited program leading to the DDS or DMD degree, or a foreign equivalent. All applicants must meet the admission requirements to the degree program of the Graduate School of the University of Connecticut. Students from countries where English is not the principal language will need to present evidence of satisfactory performance on the proficiency Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
