Texas A&M University College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas, offers an advanced education (residency) program leading to a certificate in oral and maxillofacial radiology (OMR). The program is 24 months in length and is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
This program prepares students for academic careers or private practice of OMR and qualifies the graduate to challenge the certification examination of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. Academic and clinical studies include radiation physics, radiation biology, radiation safety and hygiene, basic biological sciences, imaging sciences and interpretation of analog and digital images, Cone-beam computed tomography, multidetector computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, and allied imaging modalities. Clinical rotations include medical diagnostic radiology and interdisciplinary conferences. Appropriate teaching experience in clinical and classroom settings prepares the student for effective interdisciplinary consultations. Ample opportunity and encouragement are given for research activities in areas of radiation biology, imaging technology, radiation risk and safety and other clinical scientific disciplines.
The facility is active in several clinical and research areas, and maintains a substantial academic and community based practice through the Texas A & M University College of Dentistry Oral & Maxillofacial Imaging Center. The Imaging Center enjoys an outstanding reputation providing digital and CBCT imaging acquisitions as well as interpretation services. Medical radiology rotations are at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas which is immediately adjacent to Texas A & M College of Dentistry.
An applicant must have successfully completed an accredited program leading to the DDS or DMD degree, or foreign equivalent. Students from countries where English is not the principal language will present evidence of satisfactory performance on the proficiency Test of English as a Foreign Language.
The Division will accept applications for admission through October 1 of the previous year. Stipends are provided.
